I understand that this is not a reasonable budget for a good bike but i am going to uc davis which is a college town and after having injuries from weightlifting i would rather do something that is not high impact such as biking. Not the highest quality but definitely better than a walmart bike and good enough to let you get a feel for ride biking. Pretty good bang for your buck. If it s used it s probably garbage and or old and will need to have a bunch of its components upgraded and end up costing just as much as a newer bike. I got myself a 2013 fuji sportif 1 3 as my first road bike a few months ago.

Sure it s possible to find a decent bike on craigslist for under 500 if you have a lot of time and know what to look for but if you re asking this question on reddit you probably don t know what to look for. I payed less for the fuji than other bikes with an all claris groupset.
