Painted Roof Turtle

The painted roof turtle was first bred in captivity at mcbt in may 2004.

Despite their extremely wide distribution there are just four different subspecies. Their name comes from the brightly colored markings on their extremities which range from yellow to orange to red. Approximately 7 8 x x1 3 depth all stones are numbered and signed. Painted in brown acrylics and coated with a uv protective varnish for a lifetime of enjoyment and will withstand all weather elements.

It lives in slow moving fresh waters from southern canada to northern mexico and from the atlantic to the pacific. The legs also have red striping and the carapace has bright red crescent shapes along the marginal scutes. The painted turtle chrysemys picta is the most widespread native turtle of north america. The indian roofed turtle pangshura tecta is a species of turtle in the family geoemydidae.

The eastern painted turtle has a large yellow dot on either side of the head and yellow striping that changes to red down the neck. The turtle is the only species of the genus chrysemys which is part of the pond turtle family emydidae. It is found in the major rivers of south asia. Male eastern painted turtles can grow to 4 6 inches in length while females can reach 6 8 inches.

This is a flat stone painting of a colombian turtle. Fossils show that the painted turtle existed 15 million years ago. It is a common pet in the indian subcontinent. Painted turtles are some of the most widespread members of the turtle testudines family in north america.
